Operations Manager - Metals

Based: London
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 + Bonus + Benefits

Our Client is a growing, entrepreneurial metals Trading company who are searching for a likeminded Operations Manager who can help support the growth of the business. You will be a dynamic, highly motivated and ambitious Operations Manager with the ambition to develop the role into heading-up an Operations department.

In this role, you will be responsible for the execution and oversight of physical metals contracts’ life cycle for the businesses target market.

As an Operations Manager your main responsibilities will involve:

  • Capture and monitor the full life cycle of transactions from open to close.
  • Handle and manage shipping documents including Invoices, Packing Lists, Bills of Lading, Certificates of Origin and Bills of Exchange.
  • Draft and negotiate Letter of Credit applications with our banking partners and clients.
  • Draft contracts to protect the businesses interest, whilst also complying with Credit Insurance requirements.
  • Communicate logistics updates to suppliers and buyers, continuously liaising with freight forwarders, regarding shipping arrangements.
  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Manage invoicing and all other document execution in a timely manner.
  • Oversee all processes and procedures including accounting and CTRM systems.
  • Keep management informed of all activity including orders, quotation requests, and complaints on customer accounts (Trading Houses, Financial Institutions, Bankers and Credit Insurers)
  • Identify business opportunities by collecting market intelligence from key contacts.
  • Assist in developing the sales market of metal products within UK, North and West Africa.
  • Build and manage relationships with full spectrum of parties including, Buyers, Suppliers, Bankers, Financial Institutions and Insurers.
  • Keep up to date on the metals markets to identify potential customers and business opportunities
  • Delegate and Administer tasks to Junior members of the team, training on Trade Finance products, where necessary.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

As an Operations Manager, your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

  • 5+ years’ experience in the metals/ commodities sector.
  • Thorough knowledge of all Trade Finance products including shipping documentation, letters of credit, draft avalisation and Documentary Collections.
  • Good understanding of different trade and customs regulations in North and West Africa
  • Good knowledge of metals products and related customers.
  • Self-starter, innovative and conceptual thinker as well as analytical with project management skills.
  • Strong leadership and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently, communicating accordingly.
  • Motivated, execution oriented and flexible/positive personality with a can-do attitude
  • Commodity finance / Trade operations experience preferable
  • Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken
